For the Hall & Partners Play event, we wanted to explore the role of ‘Play’ in building stronger relationships between people and brands. The core design to the event, was the magazine which had to be both thoughtful, and of course, playful.

The first task was to brainstorm as a team the creative ways we could make the Play Event and Magazine engaging and fun! I started by looking into the origins of how we play, create and share, and so much of it comes from a simple piece of paper.

MAGAZINE CREATION

To help make the creative process run smoothly amongst a team of designers based in London, New York and Los Angeles, I created a magazine template. This would help guide our designers to follow a particular colour scheme and fonts.

PLAYFUL TOUCHES

To help engage the reader, we tried a variety of ‘playful touches’:

  • Scented paper
  • Paper craft
  • 3D effects
  • Video game

PLAYFUL SPEAKERS

With speakers from a variety of companies –adam&eveDDB, The Writer, Ketchum and The Walt Disney Company – we created an event that reflected our initial goal; to explore the role of ‘Play’ in building stronger relationships between people and brands.

PLAYFUL COLLABORATION

The final magazine was centre stage at the Play event. With articles from a variety of specialists and designs created by Junior Designers to the Design Director, the Play magazine was a truly collaborative effort! I was involved at every stage: concept development, design, review and printing.
